Now that the school year is underway, we should be in conversation about our plans for the year. I'm hoping that people are checking this blog; please leave a comment if you read this.

I have to find my notes- don't worry I have them. It's just that I finally got around to spring cleaning this last weekend and I put them somewhere safe!

Notes from Matt's TALIG Table

Here are the notes from my table discussing what we'd expect from ATLA's Teaching and Learning Interest Group (TALIG).

  • Emphasize that teaching and learning is essential to all our jobs
  • Develop digital resources to deliver teaching resources
  • Increase awareness of relevant existing resources
  • Facilitate cooperation between libraries
  • Online clearinghouse of online resources
  • TALIG wiki
  • Help address the competency divide that exists with patrons and especially help address the situation where patrons assume more competency then they actually possess.
  • Gather data on library user behavior
  • Provide evidence that what theological librarians do makes a difference in our students' educational and professional tasks.
  • Highlight the educational needs of different library patrons such as international students, distance students, faculty, older/younger students, etc.
  • Encourage submission of articles to ATLA's new journal
  • Faculty collaboration tactics
  • Making people aware of relevant grants
  • Provide libraries with ideas for assessment including assessing students, library instruction, and faculty assignments
  • Help provide appropriate data for ATS accreditation
  • Discuss how librarians can successfully navigate campus political realities
This is what I recorded of our discussion. - Matt Ostercamp

Opening Post

Well, this has been more complicated than I anticipated! If each member of the steering committee could leave a comment here, I will know you have been able to establish contact with the blog. At that point I will post instructions as to how to get to the googledoc.
